The idea behind the Fish Club is to provide an open platform for business opinions and to explore new ideas and their implementation. The first meeting had about 100 attendees from various segments of the fish market: fishermen, logistics experts, traders, importers, processors, retailers, online merchants, as well as marketers, analysts, and other experts. Their involvement testified to the market’s interest in direct dialogue.
RFC CEO Savelii Karpukhin presented a unique project—in 2023, the Perekrestok retail chain signed an agreement with RFC and Agama Istra for direct supply of pollock from the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. By signing the agreement, Perekrestok became the first retailer to directly charter large quantities of Far Eastern fish, including pollock. It’s too early to draw conclusions, but the project’s dynamics affirm the need for such initiatives and demonstrate how important they are for maintaining product quality on store shelves and encouraging fish product consumption.
Other key discussion topics included pricing transparency for market participants, a unified information agenda for fishermen, importers and retailers, and consumer preferences.
