Russian Fish Industry Company Continues Fleet Renewal with Launch of "KAPITAN YUNAK" Super Trawler

09/23/2024
The launching ceremony for the ST-192 super trawler, named "KAPITAN YUNAK", took place on September 18 at Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg.

"KAPITAN YUNAK" is the fifth vessel in a series of ten fishing boats being constructed by the Russian Fishery Company under the state investment quota program aimed at renewing the domestic fishing fleet and enhancing the sustainable development of valuable bioresources.

The launch ceremony for the supertrawler "KAPITAN YUNAK" was graced by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation D.N. Patrushev, St. Petersburg Governor A.D. Beglov, First Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation and the ship's godmother I.A. Okladnikova, Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery I.V. Shestakov, Deputy General Director for Civil Shipbuilding at JSC "OSC" K. S. Toropov, General Director of LLC "Russian Fishery Company" S.D. Karpukhin, Acting General Director of JSC "Admiralty Shipyards" A.V. Bystrov, and Senior Mechanic of LLC "Russian Fishery Company" A.V. Yunak.

"KAPITAN YUNAK" stands as one of the most advanced fishing vessels in the world, equipped for deep and waste-free processing of its catch onboard. In terms of technical and operational capabilities, it surpasses all previously built vessels within its class. It is crucial that these new ships not only offer significantly increased production capacity but also ensure maximum safety and improved working and living conditions for the crews,"

remarked Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, addressing the shipbuilders.

"Each new vessel represents a significant milestone for the fishing sector, augmenting the ranks of Russia's fishing fleet. Moreover, we are once again assured that the mechanism of investment quotas is functioning effectively, enabling us to move closer to our goal - by the end of the second stage of the program, we will possess a cutting-edge fleet,"

stated Ilya Vasilyevich Shestakov, head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

"Today marks the launch of the fifth serial vessel built under the ST-192 project by Admiralty Shipyards for Russian Fish Industry Company. The four earlier vessels are already demonstrating impressive performance. These vessels are the most advanced, technologically sophisticated, and safest trawlers for pollock and herring fishing, not only in Russia’s Far East but globally. Bon voyage, "KAPITAN YUNAK"!»,

noted Saveliy Dmitrievich Karpukhin, General Director of RRPC.

Karpukhin also highlighted that between 2022 and 2024, fishing operations were conducted using four super trawlers built by the company: "Vladimir Limanov," "Kapitan Vdovichenko," "Mekhanik Maslak," and "Mekhanik Sizov." "All of these vessels ranked among the top ten in terms of catch. In season B, they will be joined by a new vessel - "Kapitan Martynov.'"

The keel laying for the large freezer fishing trawler "KAPITAN YUNAK" occurred at Admiralty Shipyards in June 2021, with commissioning scheduled for 2025. The vessel is designed to catch and process 60,000 tons of fish annually, which is 2.5 times greater than the capacity of the current trawlers that form the foundation of the fishing fleet operating in the Russian Far East.

The company is now assembling an entirely new fleet of 11 technologically advanced super trawlers. Each new trawler not only produces high-quality, deep-processed pollock and herring but also provides safe, automated workplaces with high levels of comfort.
