RFC at Seafood Expo 2024

10/01/2024
The VII Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia, one of the fishing sector's key events, was held in St. Petersburg from September 17 to 19. As usual, RFC was one of the most active exhibitors and participants at the forum, showcasing its activities in both the exhibition area and business program. The main industry event of the year was attended by more than 19,000 people, including official delegations and business representatives from 27 countries.

The experts at the RFC booth provided detailed information about the company's product line and shipbuilding and fleet renovation efforts. During the exhibition, the new super trawler KAPITAN YUNAK was launched at the Admiralty Shipyards, and the company shared news, future plans, and products developed in collaboration with its partners. Throughout the exhibition, there were over 50 meetings held with partners from Russia and Asian countries, laying the groundwork for future contracts to supply approximately 6,000 tonnes of surimi and fillet in 2025.

RFC speakers also participated in several forum sessions. RFC General Director Savelii Karpukhin spoke at the main event on the business agenda: the plenary session, titled "Fishery in the Era of Innovation: Technologies of the Future" and moderated by Ilya Shestakov, Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery. The session featured top officials and key industry figures, including Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert, Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov, and other experts in the field. Savelii Karpukhin elaborated on the company's approach to investing in innovations and implementing production technologies. "RFC vessels employ the latest and most efficient production technologies. We constantly strive to improve the efficiency of our existing systems. Our most significant recent project is the addition of a condensate recovery unit at our fish meal plant, which helps save up to 20 tonnes of fresh water per hour, allowing us to extract more protein from production waste in the future," RFC General Director explained.

The RFC fleet now includes 5 new-generation super trawlers capable of processing up to 100% of fish into top-quality products directly at sea. The company is expanding its cooperation with processors and retailers to build more efficient product chains, from catching fish to delivering it to store shelves.

Oleg Moskvin, RFC Commercial Director, spoke at the Russia-China business session. He highlighted the high consumer quality of sea-frozen pollock fillet, as well as pollock surimi, which is a novelty for Russian producers. Mr. Moskvin suggested revising the current 7% duties on fillets and surimi to encourage international consumers.

And, of course, one of the most important discussions took place during the round table, titled "Russian Fish: How to Stimulate Consumption Growth," moderated by Georgi Reshetnikov, General Director of ANO "Agency for Promotion of Fish Products." Savelii Karpukhin emphasized the need for segmenting fish product offerings according to the preferences of different consumer categories. "Creating a culture of consumption among young people and children is crucial in the long term. We can do this through various channels that are most familiar to this generation. It's also necessary to work with social catering institutions, particularly at kindergartens and schools. We need a high-quality, presentable, and tasty product," said Savelii Karpukhin, RFC General Director. RFC is the creator of the first project uniting the fishing industry, fish processors, and the HoReCa and retail sectors: the O!Mega Taste pollock festival. Through this project, the company is fostering the pollock consumption culture at various levels by engaging the main consumption channels.
