Russian Fishery Company held a Career Day for students of the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University

On April 27, the Russian Fishery Company (RFC) held a Career Day, which brought together cadets and students of the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University (FESTFU). Representatives of Russian Fishery Company advised students of the benefits of working for the company, practical training and employment opportunities and presented RFC scholarship program.

RFC representatives reported of the company's development strategy emphasized that one of the key direction of the company’s development is focusing on arranging favorable conditions for attracting and keeping hold of the best personnel. RFC counts on young highly qualified specialists.

«For many years FESTFU has been training personnel for various specialties. The collaboration with RFC gives students the opportunity to “touch” the profession with their hands. Our company provides opportunities for on-the-job training on vessels, at shore-based fish factory, and gives certain career prospects. The company builds modern super trawlers providing fundamentally new level of environmental friendliness, efficiency and safety of fishing, as well as the quality of working conditions and comfort rest for the crews. Super trawlers equipped with the most advanced technology need a professional crew, so we are focusing on personnel training. We support cadets, starting from their student days, to help industry in acquiring competent and motivated specialists»

RFC is building and gradually putting into operations 11 modern super trawlers. The first vessel named “VLADIMIR LIMANOV” commenced commercial fishing in 2021 and now is demonstrating high production performance. The second vessel — super trawler “KAPITAN VDOVICHENKO” — was delivered to Russian Fishery Company in September 2022. In October, successfully sailed along the Northern Sea Route, the trawler started harvesting in the Sea of Okhotsk and Bering Sea. New vessels require new knowledge and a high level of competence, so the super trawlers will be manned with both experienced and young professionals who are able to learn how to operate high-tech equipment.

It is impossible to train specialists without close cooperation with employers, so it is very important for our students to receive practice-oriented education, to have an opportunity to solidify their knowledge at the operating facilities in order to get a well-paid job and proper labor conditions. In order to provide material support, to encourage successful FESTFU students, and to create certain future corporate roster RFC presented a scholarship program for students. In a solemn ceremony, senior executives of RFC and FESTFU signed the Agreement on development of the scholarship program for students and cadets of the university; the program shall be effective for 5 years. The program involves special personal payments within the academic year period following the results of each academic term. Scholarship candidates are to be selected by competitive admissions; one of the criteria is an academic progress. The best students will also pass an interview and be invited to undergo on-the job practical training on RFC vessels or at shore-based fish factory "Russian Pollock".

Upon signing the Agreement, the representatives of Russian Fishery Company answered the students' questions. The students got the information of the way they can manage their practical training courses, what exactly they need to arrange that and what kind of working environment the Company provides for those who is working on its vessels.

At the end of the official part, RFC specialists held career-counseling sessions. They separated the students into some groups in accordance with their fields of study: manufacturing engineers, specialist in mechanics and electrical engineers, industrial fishery specialists. RFC experts accompanied each group and thus, in a direct dialogue, the students discussed their interests within the fields of study, as well as they managed to define their areas of strength and work out their own achievement strategies within professional environment.

As a reminder, Russian Fishery Company maintains systemic collaboration with industry specific higher education bodies within the Far East region to develop its own corporate roster and, in general, to improve professional standards in the fishing industry. The company strategically focuses on keeping long-term stable reliable position in the industry, particularly by the arrangement of conditions for attracting and keeping hold of the best specialists.
